blanch [blanch, blahnch] verb

In cooking, to immerse a food very briefly in boiling water or occasionally, even fat. In dessert preparations we see it in reference to blanching fruit in simmering water – peaches, for instance – to loosen their skins, among other foods. Almonds are blanched to remove their skins as well.
