biscuit

biscuit [bis-kit] noun

Depending on where you live, this word refers to different types of baked goods. In the U.S. it usually references a baking powder- and flour-based roll, typically very short – that is, rich with butter. Baking powder biscuits are an example. Shortcakes for classic strawberry shortcake are a type of biscuit, too. In Europe, particularly the U.K., biscuit means a crisp cookie or cracker.
